Tom DeLonge strikes UFO gold

The U.S. government has not acknowledged that it has investigated a UFO case and have been unable to identify it since 1969 when they closed Project Blue Book, the U.S. Air Force’s last official UFO research project. However, this weekend it was revealed that the Department of Defense (DoD) has had a secret UFO investigation project since 2007, and this revelation might not of come had it not have been for the efforts of rock star Tom DeLonge.

DeLonge has had a long time interest in UFOs, and OpenMinds.tv has been along for some of the ride. DeLonge sponsored a website dedicated to fringe topics where they reposted, with permission, many of our stories. We have interviewed him and have kept in contact.

However, despite DeLonge telling us he was up to some big things, we had no idea how big. In fact, DeLonge sharing his beliefs in some of the more fringe ideas in Ufology made it even more difficultly to fathom that he had high-level contacts confiding in him. We finally got insight into just how important his contacts were from WikiLeaks of all places.

During the election, WikiLeaks famously posted hacked emails they received that belonged to Hillary Clinton’s campaign for the presidency. Many of them were communications with John Podesta, Clinton’s campaign manager, who was also known to be a UFO enthusiast. In these emails it was discovered he was in communication with DeLonge regarding the UFO matter (one of my OpenMinds.tv articles was among them), and that they had meetings with highly placed U.S. Air Force officials, engineers and people in the entertainment industry. Many of these individuals did not want to publicly be associated with the topic, which is why DeLonge had kept their identities hidden.

It was clear DeLonge was working with these individuals on projects he said were in the works. Reaching people at that level, even if you are a famous rock star, takes a lot of effort, and so he was awarded the OpenMinds.tv UFO Researcher of the Year award at the 2017 International UFO Congress. Many did not like that. However, I have felt it was justified. I do not believe any civilian UFO researcher has obtained the level of cooperation with high-level officials he had.

DeLonge could not be present to receive his award, but he did make an acceptance video that we played at the conference, and he allowed us to post it online. We did so with a video outlining his achievements. The video went viral and was covered by many music industry news outlets and several mainstream outlets as well.

In the video, Tom promised big news would be announced soon after the conference in February. However, days turned into weeks which turned into months with no announcement. DeLonge emailed me apologizing for the delay, but letting me know it was coming. In the meantime, he did interviews about his belief that the government was actually protecting us from aggressive extraterrestrial civilizations, and that insiders were working with him to reveal their secrets.

Honestly, this caused credibility issues. Careful, serious researchers were frustrated that he would make these unsubstantiated claims. Those who felt as he did grew impatient waiting for proof. Others felt he was defaming extraterrestrial civilizations who were here to help us. Everyone else waited patiently.

Finally, in October of this year, DeLonge announced the creation of the To the Stars Academy (TTSA). It was a corporation comprised of scientists, former intelligence officials, engineers, and other credible individuals. To me, this was shocking. It was an impressive group of individuals. One individual in particular stood out; a name I had not heard before.

His name was Luis Elizondo. He said he had worked in intelligence for the Department of Defense (DoD) on a program to look into UFO reports. I had no reason to doubt him. I also had no doubt the others in the group, who I was familiar with and admired, would have vetted him. However, it was unclear if his department only looked into UFOs on occasion, or if this was something they looked into more thoroughly. Elizondo said he was frustrated that the DoD did not take the issue more seriously, and that he and some of his colleagues were convinced they were witnessing objects demonstrating technology the U.S. or any other country in the world could posses.

The creation of the TTSA, and especially Elizondo’s claims, were huge, I felt. However, the news was met with a resounding “meh” among many UFO researchers. Some felt it was a scam to get money, and others felt it was some kind of coverup. I had the opportunity to talk to DeLonge, and another member of the group who had retired from a career in the CIA, Jim Semivan. I also had acquaintances I spoke with who were close with the other individuals in the group. I got the sense that none of them needed the money, they all had a very strong interest in the UFO topic and an equally strong desire to research more about the nature of the phenomenon. I also felt as though they did not feel they were part of a coverup or being manipulated by mysterious dark forces.

However, there was something else that was apparent. These individuals also did not hold the same views as DeLonge. Although some had personal experiences, their interest was to “follow the data” as Chris Mellon, another member put it. Some are even hesitant to conclude these mysterious aerial vehicles are a result of an extraterrestrial civilization.

I think this is where some confusion has stemmed from. Since October DeLonge had been a spokesperson for the forthcoming news, which turned out to be a ground breaking effort to investigate UFOs. However, DeLonge also mixed in his ideas about a space war going on between the U.S. government and aliens. The later was not what was revealed, and what many felt DeLonge had promised. DeLonge feels he may still be able to prove his other more shocking claims. Who knows, with everything he has accomplished thus far, maybe he will. We seem to be living in a time of the impossible being possible, for better or worse.

This brings us to the news making headlines today. It appears I, and a few of my colleagues, were not the only ones who noticed the importance of what Elizondo had claimed. Apparently, The New York Times, Politico and The Washington Post also saw its importance and began investigating Elizondo’s claims.

This past Saturday, The New York Times posted their findings, soon after Politico did the same and right after that, The Washington Post published their story. They all took different angles, but the gist is that since 2007 the DoD has been running a secret UFO project called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP) ran by Elizondo. Furthermore, Bigelow Aerospace was contracted to do the work. This last piece of news was of particular interest because I was the PR person for the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) around 2008 when Bigelow funded a joint project with us.

Bigelow Moon base

The other details in the project were equally as shocking. Apparently, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, democrat from Nevada, was influenced by astronaut John Glenn and Bigelow, who was a friend and donor, to initiate an investigation into UFOs. Reid sought the cooperation fellow senators and along with Ted Stevens, a republican from Alaska, and Daniel K. Inouye, a democrat from Hawaii, procured funding for the program. $22 million was earmarked for the project over the next 5 years.

The Pentagon told The New York Times they canceled funding in 2012 due to a lack of results, but Elizondo says the program was not canceled. He and others continued their work along with other DoD duties. Even after Elizondo left the project in October to join TTSA, he says he had a successor to continue running the project.

So what did AATIP find? That information is being held back, but Elizondo has given us a few things to chew on. A Pentagon briefing on the program in 2009 claimed “what was considered science fiction is now science fact,” and, according to The New York Times, “that the United States was incapable of defending itself against some of the technologies discovered.” Whoa.

To add to the shock and awe, according to The New York Times, Elizondo claimed, “Under Mr. Bigelow’s direction, the company modified buildings in Las Vegas for the storage of metal alloys and other materials that Mr. Elizondo and program contractors said had been recovered from unidentified aerial phenomena.”

On this last issue, Ralph Blumenthal, one of the co-writers of The New York Times article, told MSNBC in an interview that indeed they had recovered material that was a technology they cold not identify. Mellon, another member of TTSA who formerly worked as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence in the Clinton and Bush Administrations, among other high-level positions, confirmed to investigative reporter George Knapp, the man who put Area 51 on the map, and I, on Coast to Coast AM last night, that they did have material, but there is no information as to where that material came from.

Elizondo was also able to get three videos of unknown aerial objects released. Two of those videos are posted on the TTSA website, the third has not been released yet. One of these videos we have seen, but now it has been confirmed it is real. It is a video from an incident of a UFO being observed by personnel from the Nimitz aircraft carrier group and captured on infrared video from a jet fighter. Researcher Robert Powell has written on his investigation on this case on OpenMinds.tv.

The second video is similar, but information as to the date, time or location the video was captured has not been released.

I may be leaving out details, but I have peppered links to the big stories and videos throughout this article for you to get caught up.

To sum it all up, what we have here is truly extraordinary. The U.S. government has not admitted to a UFO investigation and determination of an object being an unknown since1969 when they closed Project Blue Book, the USAF’s official investigation into UFOs. To further state that these objects demonstrate a technology beyond our own that we can not defend against and they have recovered unknown material is – sorry, but I can not help myself – amazeballs. It is the stuff of science-fiction.

This would be a MAJOR mic drop for DeLonge, but in his mind, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Further disclosures are certainly forthcoming. Now that the cat is out of the bag, people will be clamoring for information such as where the second video came from, where the material came from and what other cases has the AATIP looked into. It has also been suggested that this has all been cronyism by Reid to funnel money to his buddy Bigelow. There are a million avenues to go down, and I am sure there will be people going down them all.

In the end, this has been an extraordinary revelation, and whether or not it is ever revealed there has been a galactic battle going on between humans and space invaders — I would not count anything out given what DeLonge has accomplished thus far — we still need to give credit where credit is due. None of this would have been revealed if it wasn’t for DeLonge’s efforts.

Stay tuned for more! We will have a special report from Leslie Kean, one of the co-authors of The New York Times article on the next Open Minds UFO Radio podcast.

The witness and her husband were sitting outside on a porch at 10:45 p.m. on June 17, 2017, when the incident began.

“I noticed what looked like a meteorite shooting across the sky at three separate times a few minutes apart from one another,” the witness stated. “I thought it was odd for this to happen back-to-back because I’ve never seen that before, but I ignored the thought and continued to talk with my husband.”

Minutes later the witness noticed an object with bright red and blue lights rising up from behind the house across the street.

The object stopped and hovered. Pictured: Richmond, VA (Credit: Google)

“I stopped my husband dead in his conversation and said, ‘What in the hell is that?’ My husband looked up and dismissed it as being an airplane at first, until we both noticed that the object stopped in mid-air and began hovering above the house across from us.”

The witness panicked and ran inside the house.

“My husband stood out there and was able to get our neighbor a few houses down to come outside and witness what we were witnessing. After about a second or two, I came back outside and just stood there staring at this thing before pulling my cell phone out to record. There was no sound coming from this object. It just sat there. I couldn’t keep my eyes off the lights as they flashed randomly.”

A second object appeared that looked like a red orb. Pictured: Richmond, VA (Credit: Google)

Five minutes later, the object started moving southwest and was gone.

“As my husband and I stood out there talking about what we just saw and unsure of what it was, we saw a red, orb-like object appear in the sky making quick, zigzag maneuvers before zipping north. We couldn’t believe what we had witnessed. It all felt so surreal and I’m not sure what it was we saw that night, but whatever we experienced, it was definitely strange.”

The witness included one video clip with the report, which was filed on June 19, 2017.

Virginia MUFON Field Investigator Victor Rodriquez investigated this case and closed it as an Unknown. Please remember that most UFO sightings can be explained as something natural or man-made. The above quotes were edited for clarity. Please report UFO activity to MUFON.com.

The witness is a bus driver and was outside on a break at 9:41 p.m. on April 17, 2017, when the incident occurred.

“I was taking to my best man about my upcoming wedding on the phone,” the witness stated.“I would normally be in our restroom, but since the clock in the restroom was fast (about 7 minutes fast) I had gone out early to wait while still chatting to my friend. While I was talking, I was just kind of walking about near the leisure center, where my bus stops, when I looked randomly over in the direction of the river, which is when I saw the three lights in a triangle pattern rotating on its axis and wobbling slightly.”

The witness instantly felt that the object was not normal.

“I have been interested in the subject of UFOs since I was about 10. I told my mate I’d ring him back and started filming the lights with my phone. Due to the street lights my camera was having a hard time focusing on the formation, so I moved closer to the river to get a better view – in some haste since I still had to drive a bus which was going to be there at any moment.”

The witness then shot a 2-min, 40-second video. The witness then took 7 photos and another 41 seconds of video.

“It’s at this point I really had to go back to the bus stop to get my bus. As I walked over, four people got out of a car in the car park and I pointed out the lights to them – to which they showed a bit of interest, but not much.”

The bus arrived at 10:02 p.m.

“I showed the lights to my co-worker who tried to think of any reason they might be something other than a UFO – drone, laser pointers, etc. He went to cash-in and finish and I had to drive as I was now 7 minutes late. I drove to the turn-around point and back in about 8 mins and the lights were gone by the time I got back down to town – and could not see them on the way down as I had a good view over the area due to the road I was driving.”

Australian witness photographs cylinder UFO

An Australian witness at Eungella reported watching and photographing a cylinder-shaped object moving about 500 feet overhead in a straight line without noticeable sound, according to testimony in Case 82637 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside with his wife and son at 6:50 a.m. on March 14, 2017, when the incident began.

“My son looked up at the sky, pointed and said, ‘moon?’”the witness stated. “My wife and I looked to see what he was pointing at and we saw a white, cylindrical or rectangular object above the clouds and travelling from south to north at a fast rate.”

The witness immediately noted the direction of wind in the area.

“The wind was blowing in the same direction; however, this object did not look like a balloon, but a solid, reflective structure.”

The witness quickly ran inside the house and retrieved his wife’s tablet, turned the camera on, and zoomed in on the object, managing to take three digital photos and one short video.

“My wife suggested the object might be a glider, but no person was seen and it did not have the shape one would expect to see. This was definitely cylindrical or rectangular in shape. It was also quite high, at least 400-500 feet or more above us, and made no sound or noise we could hear. The object appeared to be quite big, possibly 10-20 feet in length or longer, and was moving in a straight-line. We live in a sparsely populated area with thick rainforest, so this was a strange sight to see. This object was witnessed by me, my wife and son. The entire event lasted not more than 5 minutes before sighting of the object was lost over the trees.”

Eungella is an Australian township nestled on the edge of the Clarke Range at the end of the Pioneer Valley 80 km west of Mackay, and 858 km northwest of Brisbane.

MUFON Australia Field Investigator Kent May closed this case as an Unknown.

“The witness submitted directly to me the photographic and video evidence,” May stated in his report. “Unfortunately, the video footage is not good enough to submit, but is kept on file for future reference. Due to the speed of the object the UFO was constantly moving in and out of the video camera view finder. The photographic evidence was uploaded to image detecting websites and the images appear to be genuine. The witness has been cooperative and I find him to be a credible witness. Due to the distance of the object being rather close, no searches where conducted for satellites. There are several other UFO sightings posted over the past years in the same area of Eungella. The submitted sighting was witnessed by the witness, his partner and their child. I have no doubt in believing what the witness saw was described to the best of his ability.”

New Hampshire witness says UFO chased jet (VIDEO)

A New Hampshire witness at Lincoln reported watching and videotaping what appeared to be an unknown object following a jet, according to testimony in Case 81792 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside reading on a deck at 7 p.m. on April 21, 2016, when the incident occurred.

“I am told that military pilots train in the mountains around where I live and I’ve always enjoyed seeing them fly through,” the witness stated.“This happens all the time. Jets and helicopters are a common sighting. So I naturally saw the jet and did a double take, because there was something following it.”

The witness thought that the object looked strange – possibly something the military built, but not a jet.

“I knew it wasn’t a jet because it was actually right behind one. The jet it was chasing left a long contrail behind it, but the UFO did not. The UFO was gaining on the jet. No helicopter could do that. I was blown away and luckily got out my phone in time to take a video. I watched the object gaining on the jet for about 10 seconds when I lost them in the trees.”

The witness felt excited and anxious at the sighting.

“I felt I had witnessed something very hard to dismiss as a weather balloon or some obvious type of aircraft. Shortly after the jet and object left my range of sight I saw three more jets and one helicopter going the same direction (in my opinion chasing the UFO). I also got another video of those other aircraft. I would like to show the video to an aviation expert and maybe get an explanation. I’m uploading to MUFON hoping for answers.”

The witness was letting her dogs out into the backyard when the incident began at 5:10 p.m. on December 23, 2016.

“I heard a growling noise in the sky, so I looked up as I was thinking to myself that this is was an unusual sound,” the witness stated.

The witness first thought that an object was crashing to the ground.

“But as I observed it for a few more minutes, it stayed stationary, then it went side-to-side.”

The witness called out to her husband and asked him to bring a camera outside.

“He watched it for a bit and said that the camera wouldn’t pick it up. It’s probably a plane, he says. I said, does a plane stay in one place, and then it started shifting back toward us, so he went in the house and retrieved the camera phone. What I got on camera is not what I envisioned, but at least it was something. It really was an amazing view at the beginning, which of course I do not have on camera, because you are kind of bewildered at the start trying to decipher what you are seeing. The video definitely shows my excitement, but it also shows it fleeing toward the horizon.”

Florida helicopter pilot reports ‘glowing craft’ (Video)

A Florida witness at Orlando who is also a helicopter pilot reported watching and videotaping a “glowing craft” at about 1,500 feet altitude that eventually “flew upward and vanished,” according to testimony in Case 81052 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside at 5:24 p.m. on December 18, 2016, when the incident occurred.

“Had a feeling to look up as if I had to, and then I saw the glowing craft fly from south direction to north,” the witness stated.“It was flying high, but well below the commercial airplanes flight altitude that were in traffic during the afternoon.”

The witness then took out a cell phone and shot video.

“It was lower than the clouds. I don’t know the size of the craft, but I’m guessing that it was flying at 1,500 feet. I filmed it and I saw it go inside a very small cloud. It should had flown out of it in a second, but it didn’t. I thought that somehow it had disappeared and stopped filming it. But I kept staring at that cloud. Then after quite sometime, I saw it come out of the same small cloud. It turned and flew upwards and vanished.”

The witness is sure that the object was not something known.

“I’m a certificate helicopter pilot and I know that this was not a plane, helicopter, rocket, meteor, birds, balloons, blimp, etcetera.”

The case was investigated by Florida MUFON Field Investigator James Thomas Horne and closed as an Unknown. In addition to two pieces of video, the witness also included three still frames from the video.

“This is not a flight characteristic of a conventional aircraft,” Horne stated in his report. The witness pointed out that the object’s vector was divergent from theusual flight path for air traffic in his area. The object did not visually appear to be a meteor from the video.Witness is a helicopter pilot and shows specificknowledge in the interview process. No correlating cases. It is suggested that the case be recorded as UAV.”
