Alleged retired Navy petty officer claims to have seen Top Secret UFO files

An anonymous witness claiming to have seen thousands of files relating to “UFO/ET” projects while working at the Naval Telecommunication Center at NAS Moffett field in the late 80s, says he is going public because his secrecy agreement has expired and he would like the government to disclose what they know on about UFOs and aliens. As shocking as his claims are, a UFO researcher who formerly worked for the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD), says he has “no doubts about [the witness’] background.”

The witness first made his claims via a report in the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) UFO reporting system. On February 13, 2016, the witness wrote:

I was a Radioman 3rd class petty officer at Naval Telecommunications Center within NAS Moffett Field from Feb 86′ to Oct 89′ having maintained a TS SBI/ESI NATO/SIOP Compartmental Security Clearance. I was required to deliver TS Code word designation COSMIC to SRI, ESL/SYLVANIA, LOCKHEED SKUNKWORKS, TRW, RATHEON, BERKELEY LABS, LAWRENCE LIVERMORE LABS, and other think tanks throughout Silicon valley. In addition we had a GS11 employee who was transferred from a Joint U.S. U.K. Communication station north of London after working at that site for a dozen years. He said it was an NSA/UK facility tasked with tracking UFO including Rendalsham Forest Incident. He said that UFO/ET were real and that hopefully disclosure would happen in my lifetime since he was in his early 60s at the time. I’m not reporting a UFO sighting rather a UFO related experience. I have copies of my security clearances.

I personally handled, viewed and delivered thousands of documents involving UFO/ET Projects. My secrecy agreement with the U.S. Government expired in Oct 2014. At this point in my life I would like to share my knowledge in hopes that someone will be able to use it effectively towards disclosure.

The claims are shocking, but many of the references appear correct. TS is often used in military documents to represent Top Secret. SBI stands for Special Background Investigation, ESI is Exceptionally Sensitive Information and SIOP stands for Single Integrated Operation Plan.

The organizations the man claims to have taken the documents to are companies with defense contracts. SRI presumably stands for the Stanford Research Institute, which is well-known in paranormal circles for its research into topics such as ESP and remote viewing.

Nick Pope, who worked for the UK MoD investigating UFOs in the 90s, told the Daily Express newspaper, “It’s clear from the language he uses and the information he has that he’s a genuine insider.”

“I’ve actually had some personal communication with this individual, and have no doubts about his background.” claims Pope.

Pope recently appeared at the International UFO Congress, and onstage he made clear he does not condone the release of classified information without going through the proper channels. On his Facebook page, Pope sought to clarify this point and his relations with the alleged witness.

Pope wrote: “To clarify my position and involvement, I’ve been in direct contact with the individual concerned for some time now. I’m working with him and with the [Daily Express] to try to find a way forward that will involve verifying the person’s identity, and verifying the information. That said, I have never endorsed the unauthorized release of classified information, and a key priority will be to seek assurances that any release is both lawful and proper.”

According to a recent story in the Daily Express, the newspaper was also able to get in touch the witness directly. They claim another concern the witness has is for the families of those who have lost their lives in connection to UFOs. Including, some who the witness believes may have lost their lives due to an attempt to share information that the government did not want out.

MUFON spokesperson and OpenMinds.tv contributor Roger Marsh told the Daily Express, “This historical case has been assigned to a field investigator within the Californian MUFON group.”

The witness told the Daily Express he recently spoke with MUFON investigators for over four hours.

When asked if he kept copies of the UFO documents he claims to have seen, the witness responded, “Legally, you are not authorized to walk off with classified information. That is treason and treason is a felony.”

He continued, “I do not possess anything other than my testimony and documents that authorize that I legitimately had the individual top-secret security clearances.”

I reached out to Pope via email to verify his statements and get an update on his research into this case, and while he does see some signs of authenticity in what the witness claims, Pope also advises caution.

“I’ve been in touch with the individual concerned for some time now. His phraseology certainly seems authentic – though obviously there’s so much freely-available material on the internet these days that a determined hoaxer can pick up enough terminology to convincingly sound like a genuine ‘insider’. The proof of the pudding will be in any material supplied, and on this point, while I’ve made it clear that the individual concerned should ensure that no classified information is released, I’ll be receiving some items shortly that will further help make an informed assessment,” explains Pope.

Pope continued, “I’ve seen some people attempt to pick holes in the story prior to any of the data being placed in the public domain, on the basis of some of the individual’s statements. I have no intention of entering into a debate about any of this, but would point out that in the shadowy world of intelligence a person will often alter a few details to mask the true identity of a source.”

OpenMinds.tv will keep you updated on MUFON and Pope’s findings.

The sighting occurred about 1 p.m. on October 12, 2013, when the witness observed what appeared to be a disk-shaped object flying from the northeast and moving over Owego.

“The object omitted no sound,” the witness stated. “There was no trail after it. There were no visible wings of any kind.”

The witness uploaded a 22-second video taken on a camera phone with the report, which was filed with MUFON on October 12, 2013.

“The disc moved from southwest to the northeast over the western horizon. Shortly after another object the same size and shape, no wings, no trail, no sound was observed flying from east (Binghamton, NY) to the northwest, however, higher in the sky than the first object. Having observed thousands of flights going over this area in the last 30 years, I have never seen anything like this before.”

New York MUFON State Section Director Chuck Streb and Chief Investigator Nicholas Voulgaris investigated this case and closed it as an Unknown. Owego is a town in Tioga County, NY, population 19883.

Lowing flying UFOs over Tucson appear to change color

An Arizona witness at Tucson reported watching a group of about 20 copper spheres moving rapidly north to south about 30 feet off of the ground that appeared to change color, according to testimony in Case 72636 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The event occurred beginning about 9 p.m. on November 8, 2015.

“A group of gray to copper forms was observed at approximately 30 feet altitude,” the witness stated.“The forms were in a V formation and moved quickly, silently and unwaveringly from north to south. We observed for approximately 10 seconds.”

The witness described the objects.

“Shapes changed from ovoid to spherical while maintaining V formation. The individual forms were approximately three feet across. At first the color was a dull gray and shifted to a reflective copper. There was a churning motion within the formation with individual spheres rotating from the outer part of the formation to the V.”

The objects appeared to be a dull gray, but shifted to a copper color. Pictured: A view of Tucson from Windy Point, at elevation 6,580 feet along the road up Mt. Lemmon. (Credit: Wikimedia Commons)

The witness has ruled out common explanations.

“These were clearly not balloons or birds. The speed was rapid and constant without sound.”

The witness has also ruled out a recent missile launch.

“Approximately the same time that evening, there was a Trident missile launch in California and people were reporting blue light sightings to the west of our city in Arizona. The location of this sighting was east of the city and we were facing east looking at the stars. There was a low level of illumination, muted. The colors changed from gray to copper and also the gray outlined the spheres, within the ovoids.”

Hangar 1: The UFO Files – 'This is How Low They've Sunk ...'

Whatever works, obviously …

Robert Hastings
Robert Hastings
UFOs and Nukes author/independent researcher Robert Hastings was understandably torqued recently when someone told him he needed to check out an episode of History Channel’s “Hangar 1,” the Mutual UFO Network’s cable television platform for alerting a new generation to its sprawling database. Actually, no, check that, the episode in question aired on H2, History Channel’s second-tier programming subsidiary. Actually, no, check that, it was more like a three-minute clip, not an entire episode. Anything longer than three minutes and your audience is flipping channels.

Huge UFO Sighted Near Nuclear Missiles During October 2010 Launch System Disruption

Anyhow, this compressed accounting of an extraordinary event ran during “Hangar 1’s” premiere season in 2014, and it focused on the underreported malfunction at F.E. Warren AFB near Cheyenne, Wyoming. An alarming 50 nuclear missiles abruptly went offline in October 2010, and the official explanation was that the 319th Strategic Missile Squadron had suffered a brief computer glitch. Naturally, Hastings was interested; his decades-long investigations into UFOs breaching security around America’s nuclear arsenal has prompted well over 100 Air Force veterans to speak out. In fact, the Warren system crash occurred just a month after Hastings assembled half a dozen of those veterans for testimonials at Washington’s National Press Club (see below). The press conference was live-streamed by CNN, but like all UFO stories, big media never followed up and the story died.

In contrast to the Atlantic magazine piece that broke the 50-missile shutdown story, in which authorities said weapons access went dark for just under an hour, Hastings dug around and discovered base personnel who told him, confidentially, control of the ICBMs wasn’t fully restored for nearly 26 hours. Furthermore, witnesses – who ultimately included civilian and law enforcement operatives – reported UFO activity in the vicinity during that time frame, specifically, the overflight of a large cigar-shaped object. Hastings published his findings in 2011, then contributed a followup to the MUFON Journal in 2013.

Hastings bailed on “Hangar 1” after getting his fill of H2’s opening episodes’ fidgety, hyper-produced sensationalism. After all, he was assembling his own documentary on the nuke/UFO controversy in order to retain editorial control and keep it from becoming, well, another “Hangar 1.” So when he finally watched “Hangar 1’s” spin on the Warren incident, Hastings nearly blew a gasket . Because there was MUFON Executive Director Jan Harzan uttering these scripted words: “Two missile technicians came to MUFON anonymously and reported these objects being seen before and during the actual missile shut down.”

“You know, there’s a guy out there, Jason Colavito, who I don’t agree with very often because he’s a debunker,” Hastings tells De Void. “But when he jumped on Hangar 1 for creating fraudulent documents to make the show sound more official, he absolutely nailed it. This is how low they’ve sunk, saying this is from the MUFON case files without giving me a word of credit. Legally, I think I’m within my rights to contact an entertainment attorney about intellectual theft.”

“Absolutely, Robert should’ve gotten credit for that,” Harzan responds. But it’s complicated. He says “Hangar 1” producers requested everything MUFON had on UFOs and nuclear weapons. The 46-year-old research group complied, and included the Hastings’ MUFON Journal piece in the data dump. “Nowhere in the article does it say Robert isn’t a member of MUFON,” offers Harzan, “so I think the writer just made that assumption. Certainly it wasn’t an intentional omission on our part.”

“Hangar 1’s” first season was a critical flop, but it drew the numbers; in fact, the suits were so pleased, they scheduled season two – which ran April through June this year – for a slot in the History Channel rotation itself. But according to Harzan, as a result of season one’s accuracy problems, he told History he needed a MUFON review board to preview each episode to minimize mistakes. Among those sentinel panelists is MUFON communications director Roger Marsh, who also says Hastings should’ve been credited, but adds that not even prior solves everything.

“There are three groups involved here,” he says. “There’s us, we’re the content providers. There’s the production company, which puts it all together. And then there’s the network – they’re the ones putting out the money and they’re the ones who tell us what they want.” Consequently, says Marsh, MUFON doesn’t always get what it wants. “We don’t need a lot of old stories about Roswell, or Area 51, or alien bases on the dark side of the moon. We have enough good cases over the last five or six years that nobody ever heard of, and those are the ones we’d rather see more of.”

For example, a 2000 incident over southern Illinois in which squad cars from multiple law enforcement agencies gave chase to a triangular UFO made national news. Thanks to recorded chatter between cops, this encounter has become a familiar re-enactment staple on UFO themed shows. Years ago, Marsh found a new witness, a now-retired assistant fire chief who saw the same object, same evening, cruising the skies in next-door Missouri. He had never given an interview until Marsh came along. “To me, putting a new witness in the story was what made it exciting,” he says.

Marsh reviewed what he thought was the final cut and gave it a thumbs-up. When the show aired, however, the fireman’s testimony had been edited out. But Marsh’s disappointment was mitigated by a payoff he describes as “huge.”

“When the last two [second season] episodes aired, my phone was ringing off the hook. We got dozens and dozens and dozens of calls about cases I never heard of.”

Bottom line: the dilemma – suspect show quality versus growing eyewitness feedback – is apparently a tradeoff MUFON can live with.

“I really think season two was better than season one,” Marsh says, “but it’s all on Hollywood terms — it’s a medium that’s very sexy. and you just have to get used to it. If you’re a stickler for details like Robert is, then it’s just not going to work for you.”

There must be some planet out there where sticklers for detail get a better deal than “Hangar 1.”

Spherical-shaped UFO reported hovering over Oregon town

An Oregon witness at Sisters reported watching a “silver object” hovering over a nearby tree line before shooting off erratically to the east, according to testimony in Case 65105 in the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was driving northwest along Highway 20 near Sisters just before the Black Butte Ranch when the object was first seen about 8:30 a.m. on April 30, 2015.

“I dipped my head down slightly to get a better look at the butte and then I noticed a silver spherical object hovering somewhere above the height of the tree line ahead of me and before the butte,” the witness stated.

The UFO sighting was very short.

“It only remained there a brief moment before shooting eastward over the tree line with a slightly erratic path. The entire sighting only lasted two or three seconds, but it was during daylight, and the object was well lit by sunlight and close enough that I could see any details that would identify it as a regular craft such as a helicopter.”

But the object did not look like anything that the witness could identify.

“Instead it looked like a silvery spherical object that appeared fuzzy as though it had heat ripples around it.”

The witness is sure that it was not anything that could be identified.

“It was far enough away that if it had been a balloon, it should have been much smaller and not hovered/accelerated like it did.”

Diamond-shaped UFO reported hovering over NY lake

A New York witness at Conesus reported watching a diamond-shaped UFO “larger than a plane” hovering over a lake, according to testimony in Case 65015 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was driving home about 12:15 a.m. on May `1, 2015, when the object was first seen.

“I got to the top of a hill that overlooks the lake I live on about four miles away from my house,” the witness stated. “I right away noticed a very bright and distinct light just hovering over the lake that I live on.”

The witness described the object.

“It was in the shape of a square and it was brighter than a star, and only a few stars were in the sky that night.”

When the witness moved closer to the object, it was in a hovering position and making no sound. Pictured: Conesus, NY. (Credit: Google)

The witness continued driving and moved closer to the object.

“As I got closer and closer it still was not moving at all, so I rolled my windows down and turned off the radio to listen to see if I could hear anything like a helicopter. Nothing. I could not hear a sound at all.”

The witness continued driving thinking that the object might be a Chinese lantern.

“Once I got close enough to be right under it (however, I was on the road and it was over the lake to my left) I saw that it was some sort of an aircraft. However, it was in the shape of a diamond. It had the large square light so bright on the front peek, the outer two peaks had flashing red lights on them and the back side had a flashing white and green light.”

The object was also very low.

“It was lower than any plane I had ever seen fly in that area. It slowly started to fly over my head and back north down where I had just come from as I drove under it – still making no sound at all. When I turned around to try and get a good look, it as gone into the darkness.”

The witness attempted to take photos of the object.

“I took two photos on my phone, but when I went to show my father the next day, they were not there. Not sure if while I was driving they didn’t come out or what happened.”

Fast moving UFO reported over Delaware

A Delaware witness at New Castle reported watching a fast moving object before it turned at a right angle and disappeared about 4:28 a.m. on April 28, 2015, according to testimony in Case 65033 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside on a work break sitting in a car when a bright light was seen moving at a high rate of speed left to right in the sky.

“My first thought was a shooting star, but the light was too low and too bright,” the witness stated. “As the light moved past I was looking for blinking lights, but there were none. My window was also down and there was no sound.”

The witness described the object’s movement.

“The object appeared to turn south at a 90-degree angle and then shoot off. The light did not diminish, but the farther it moved away, it dimmed. No trail or change of color or shape was noticed. There were no red or green wing lights observed as would be on a plane.”

The object seemed to move faster than known aircraft.

“The distance covered by the object would have taken a plane 20-30 seconds to cover. The object covered it in two to three seconds. The object did appear to be lower than commercial air craft as the planes are landing in Philly airport. There is a National Guard station in Newcastle about the same distance away from me. I also thought it might be a helicopter, but no sound and absent blinking lights and the speed of the light.”

Virginia witness describes low flying rectangle UFO

A Virginia witness reported watching a “large, rectangular object with lights in front and rear flying low near the Potomac River” crossing Route 301 near King George, according to testimony in Case 64920 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was driving along Route 301 about 10:10 p.m. on April 23, 2015, when the object was first seen.

“At first glance I thought the lights might be from the wings of an unusually low-flying, very large airplane, but I quickly realized that this was not an airplane,” the witness stated. “I watched the lights more intently trying to figure it out, and thought that maybe it was two planes flying in sync with each other.”

The witness quickly ruled out the idea that it was two airplanes flying together.

“No, couldn’t be that either, especially considering the positions of the lights and the fact that the lights on the front and the back remained perfectly equidistant from each other the entire time the object flew by.”

The witness was driving along Route 301 near King George, VA, about 10:10 p.m. on April 23, 2015, when the object was first seen. (Credit: Google)

The object appeared to be a rectangle.

“From my view this object seemed like a large rectangle. The shorter ends had white lights, three (or maybe more) across the front and at least two on the back with one red light blinking in the middle of the rear (between the white lights). The object seemed very large because of the diminishing perspective of the row of lights, which at first made it seem like it was tilted at an angle, but then I realized it was actually a row of lights covering a long length (the way a long fence seems smaller and at an angle the farther away it is from the viewer).”

The witness described the object.

“The two rows of lights remained equidistant from each other the entire time the craft passed by. It was definitely not two planes flying in sync with each other, which my rational mind was trying to make work as an explanation. It floated very smoothly in a straight line from the right of my line of vision to my left. It was dark in the area between the lights. Though I seemed to be able to see ‘sky’ between the two rows of lights, I don’t remember actually being able to see stars.”

The object seemed like floating glass.

“It was like a large rectangular piece of glass floating by with lights at both ends. It seemed to be flying parallel to the Potomac River on the Virginia side, crossing Route 301, maybe heading toward northern Virginia or Washington, DC.”

The witness speculated on the object’s size.

“Size? I wouldn’t be surprised if this thing was at least 100 meters by 300 meters or so.”

The witness could not identify the object.

“My reaction? ‘What the hell is that?’ Awe and curiosity. I felt a little giddy and excited. I also felt some frustration that I didn’t have anything with me that could take a photo and that I had no place safely to pull over for a better view.”

The object was unusually silent.

“I kept expecting to hear a loud engine, but never heard anything at all. I even opened my car window because I felt like I should be able to hear it. But I heard nothing but my own car. About 3-5 minutes passed from the time I noticed its approach from the front right of my view until I couldn’t see it anymore on my left (trees in the way). Very interesting.”

Mississippi witness reports low flying orange lights

A Mississippi witness driving south on Natchez Trace about a half-mile past I-20 at Ridgeland reported watching a low flying object with a row of orange lights that rolled into a vertical position about 8:45 p.m. on April 25, 2015, according to testimony in Case 64965 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

“A car was ahead of me about eight car lengths,” the witness stated. “I followed along and noticed in my rearview mirror what appeared to the reflection of a row of orange lights. I thought it might be the top f a large truck. The row moved across my windshield and I thought it was a reflection but there was something about it that caused me to take my eyes off the road and look up.”

The witness first thought the lights could be identified.

“I then saw what I thought was a private jet or small plane due to the winged light shape moving west to east. A bright white light blinked from the center. As I watched I thought to myself that the plane was awfully low to be coming in for landing at Jackson Evers Airport, some distance away.”

The object then began to roll.

“As I followed it with my eyes, it began a roll. It appeared to roll as if banking to the right. But it remained in a straight line flight. When I saw it disappear behind trees, the lights had rolled into a completely vertical position. My impression was that it was still l rolling over, but I could not see it anymore to confirm this.”

The witness is looking for answers to what the object could have been.

“I believe someone will come forward and say it was a drone or some other explanation. I know there is a radio jet air show at the nearby John Bell Williams Airport. Also, Hinds Community College has a drone program. I feel sure there is an explanation…but I feel compelled to report this incase it is not something that can be explained away.”

The witness attempted to draw the object and provided one illustration with the MUFON report, which was filed on April 25, 2015.

“The drawing attached shows three images of only one object as it moves right to left. Three views of a single object. It is not perfect but best I can do for now.”

Florida witness says triangle UFO was silent and muffled local sounds

A Florida witness in Escambia County reported a “massive, totally quiet triangle-shaped object” that flew over her neighborhood at the tree top level, according to testimony in Case 64835 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside in a vehicle at 7 p.m. on November 13, 2014, when the incident occurred.

“It was so large that when I stopped my car to look, it was all I could see out of my windshield and windows,” the witness stated. “It didn’t make any sound at all, and the trees didn’t sway or make any noise, like they would if something like a helicopter or other craft flew so close to them.”

The witness watched while the object flew overhead.

“It was right over my head, only the distance from the ground to right over the trees.”

The witness watched as the object slowly moved away.

“It moved really slowly over the neighborhood going north west/west and I watched it until it disappeared.”

While the object itself was silent, the witness recalls other normal sounds being silenced as well.

“Again, it made absolutely no noise. When it flew over, it blocked out other sounds…either that, or I was so focused on the craft that I didn’t hear nearby traffic.”

Escambia County is the westernmost county in the U.S. state of Florida, population 297,619.
