Amelia Earhart Photo Quickly Debunked! History Channel with Egg On Its Face
Debunked Earhart photo found at Japan’s National Diet Library

A Japanese blogger quickly laid waste to the History Channel’s proclamation that one of the 20th century’s biggest mysteries has been solved. THC’s documentary, Amelia Earhart: The Lost Evidence was centered on a photograph found in the National Archives by

retired US Treasury Agent, Les Kinney and was hosted by lead investigator and former FBI official, Shawn Henry.

The premise of the show was/is that Amelia Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan survived and did not crash at sea; that they made a hard landing far off course and were captured and later put to death by the Japanese that occupied the Marshal Islands at that time.

Young viewers most likely were hearing the idea that Earhart and Noonan died as prisoners of the Japanese for the first time; however, that theory has been offered up by various researchers for decades, some of which was reproduced in the doc.

To THC’s credit, the presentation of circumstantial evidence in support of show’s thesis was intriguing and doubly so with the culmination via the photograph of the dock at Jaluit Atoll, Jaluit Island which according to Kinney/Henry showed Earhart & Noonan alive and well.

Although there was no date associated with the photo (via the National Archives), Kinney stated that he believed the photo was taken before 1943; Earhart was lost on July 24th, 1937.

As a prelude to the documentary’s premiere, Henry had made the rounds to many of the morning news shows during the week, priming the pump for Sunday’s show. He discussed much of the in-depth, research that had taken place and proclaimed the Earhart mystery had finally been solved; that the photo was the apex and final confirmation, tying all the circumstantial evidence together….

But that wasn’t/isn’t the case. As a lead-up to the documentary, on July 5th, NBC broke the story of the photograph, presenting it to the public (seemingly) for the first time. As is often the case in today’s age—this sent independent, internet sleuths in motion and within days and much to The History Channel’s chagrin, the photograph’s origin had been determined, having been published in a “photo book of the south sea” in 1935—two years before Earhart’s disappearance.

Presumably, The History Channel, with all of their resources, spent months, if not longer on their research, along with Kinney who found the photo in 2012; in the documentary, various photographic experts were brought in to support the photo’s authenticity, verifying that it wasn’t doctored, as well as an expert in recognition analysis technology, who declared a high probability that the two Anglos were indeed Earhart and Noonan, thus proclaiming the photo as definitive evidence, solving one of the greatest mysteries of the 20th century.

Conversely, in a matter of days, the Japanese blogger, known as, Yamaneko Danshaku discovered the origin of said photo, which THC couldn’t or didn’t do in months (if not more) of investigation, with all their resources and published his initial findings the very night that the documentary aired.

Danshaku located the photo in a book, viewable at Japan’s National Diet Library. While the History Channel wipes the egg off their collective faces, they have announced, via a tweet that:

Eyewitness Testimony To The Battle of Los Angeles’ Huge UFO | VIDEO – 75th Anniversary

C. Scott Littleton Ph.D. – Eyewitness To The Battle of Los Angeles

Editor’s Note: On this day we pay tribute to my good friend, colleague, research partner and eyewitness to one of the most significant UFO events in history.

Here is an excerpt of an article by a former student of Scotty’s, Caitlin Hammer. The UFO Chronicles published her piece back in 2006–FW:

– Part I –

“Scotty Littleton awoke to his parents’ whispers in the hall. He peeked out and saw his father’s pale face. As an air raid warden for his beachfront neighborhood, Scotty’s dad had to leave his family and enforce the blackout outside. The shells weren’t exploding over the ocean

this time, so it couldn’t be a drill. But neither could he confirm his fears of a real enemy attack –nobody answered the phone at the Civil Defense Headquarters. Only after he walked into the street for a better view did the air raid siren start up.

Mrs. Littleton’s father was staying with the family, and he was slow to get out of bed. Slow to do everything actually. But when Scotty’s dad shouted from the doorway, “Mr. Hotchkiss, I think this may be the real thing,” the old widower bolted down the basement steps.

Scotty and his mom were too curious to remain underground. Besides, the old man’s morning breath is deadlier than falling shells, they thought, and ran back up the stairs to the beach at their back door. The two of them stood side by side, clinging together for warmth, their eyes on the sky. Searchlights focused on what appeared to Scotty’s mother as a silvery, lozenge-shaped bug, seemingly paralyzed by the lights, hanging directly over Hermosa Beach.

Glowing shrapnel fell on the beach in front of them, sending the pair back under the eaves for protection. Scotty was so close he could smell the acrid smoke as the shells exploded. His eyes refused to blink and his lower lip dangled. Were the neighbor kids seeing this?

Not far from Strand Street, another air raid warden left his family in the backyard staring skyward. The thing they watched so raptly reminded him of the Graf Zeppelin he’d seen land at Los Angeles’ Mines Field in ‘29, only wider and flatter. He and some neighbors jumped into their cars, tossing a couple of shotguns into the backseat. The object picked up speed and vaulted into the night sky as they followed it, racing down Sepulveda. As it moved away, the warden got one last look at the rectangular silhouette. Three narrow slits, like the gills of a shark, stood out, glow an angry orange-red. And then it was out of range . . ..”

The Errol Bruce-Knapp Phenomena – RIP

Editor’s Note: As a tribute to Errol, we offer an article penned back in January of ’08–may he rest in peace.–FW

The Errol Bruce-Knapp Phenomena
Strange Days Indeed!

As it is with UFOs, Errol Bruce-Knapp is an ongoing phenomena unto himself, and believe me—we’re much better off for it!

For those not in the know Errol is a veteran of broadcast media, and those erudite in Canadian AM Newstalk Radio are no doubt aware of his last roost at Newstalk 1010 CFRB in Toronto, with his program entitled, Strange Days Indeed,” having aired on Saturday’s, at 9:00 – 12:00 pm.

Sadly that broadcast came to an end recently, much to the chagrin of his regular listeners; however, just like the ever-elusive UFO, Errol keeps coming back!

Barely, skipping a beat, Errol has reinvented himself via a Podcast and for those who require their Strange Days fix, it can now be accessed 24/7!

His most recent podcast features dialogue with mainstream journalist, as well as friend to Ufology, Billy Cox, along with regulars, Dave Furlotte and wordsmith, Alfred Lehmberg.

I found the interview with Cox most fascinating, and although he would undoubtedly deny it, he (Cox) is a Ufologist in his own right.

Cox offers his views on the mainstream media’s, what I call the “wide-berth effect,” as well as how he is able to write UFO pieces (for the Herald Tribune) from time to time. Additionally, current UFO matters were covered e.g., Kucinich’s recent comments, and the UFO Conference at the “National Press Club” etc.

Although Cox was Errol’s most recent interview, many familiar voices have stopped by to talk UFOs; of late, Leslie Kean, UFO icon, Dick Hall (a regular), fellow Canadian, Don Ledger, Stuart Miller, Frank Feschino, Wendy Connors (another regular) to name few.

Errol’s laid back style as well as his upbeat personality puts his guests at ease, and casts an aura that one might find in talking to one’s favorite uncle. That said, given his knowledge of Ufology, he also knows what questions to ask, which elicits some very stimulating privities, and captivating colloquies.

Errol’s widespread erudition of the UFO phenomenon stems in part because he is the architect and repository for the UFO Updates mailing list, which is one of the greatest, if not the greatest asset a Ufologist could hope for via the Internet!

Ufology’s elite, as well as its abecedarians have been drawn together as a result of Errol’s efforts for the past 11 years.

Access to the archives is a must for any researcher, novice and or seasoned veteran alike; not only does one discover the collected input from the best in the business, one will also find accounts of practically every UFO event of the last 11 years, as they happened, as well as discussion about major events in UFO history.

Against the advice of many, the wealth of information, as well as the untold hours of Errol’s time & labor were bestowed upon the public without compensation for over a decade; his toils were given freely, and his expenses absorbed without complaint; however, in these increasingly difficult pecuniary times to ensure that this great benefaction continues a small pittance in the form of a subscription is in place to help off-set some of the operating costs.

For readers and truth-seekers alike with a keen interest in Ufology, and those who prefer to “hear it from the horse’s mouth” as events happen, a subscription is a worthwhile investment (to say the least); for researchers, investigators and or journalists, the UFO Updates Mailing List, along with the SDI Podcast is a must have tool in the inventory!

Truth & Deception: James ‘The Amazing’ Randi | VIDEO

An Honest Liar

By Frank Warren
The UFO Chronicles
© 7-21-15

Last night while lying in bed with sleep not coming, feeling a little restless and channel surfing the buttons off the clicker I decided to switch gears and repeat the process on Netflix. After several minutes of reinforcing the notion that I have viewed every movie and or television show ever made, I stumbled across the documentary, An Honest Liar. Being cognizant that this was a bio pic on “The Amazing Randi,” I bandied about the desire to watch a documentary or just find some mind-numbing, visual escape that might put me to sleep; I chose the former and am extremely pleased I did!

Finding the right adjectives for a film one thoroughly enjoys (at least for me) isn’t always an easy thing to do. It never seems to be enough. Justin Weinstein and Tyler Measom’s film An Honest Liar Truth & Deception: James “The Amazing” Randi (2014) first and foremost is simply a must see for anyone involved with this thing called Ufology. For up and coming researchers it should be a prerequisite. The film is point of fact—an invaluable tool in educating the researcher in critical thinking, deductive reasoning and approach. Moreover, it enlightens the viewer to anomalistic sociological and psychological behavior that is part and parcel of the human race.

From a research perspective and with the finish of the film permeating the mind’s palate (last night) the first engrams to bubble up were that of the recent Roswell Slides fiasco, along with the shenanigans of self-proclaimed alien abductee, Stan Romanek. Our more mature readers (to be polite) are no doubt familiar with James “The Amazing” Randi in that he spent a large part of his career exposing psychics, faith healers and con-artists/charlatans of various flavors. It was easy to imagine the afore mentioned cases being part of Randi’s résumé and by default being portrayed in the film. With all the hokum that pervades Ufology these days, watching the Randi doc was satisfying in the way one feels in the aftermath of a John Wayne movie—truth and justice always prevail and the bad guys always lost in the end.

From a researcher’s viewpoint, the film was fulfilling on these aspects alone; however, this biographical documentary was so much more! It titillates one’s psyche on several levels and the impressions felt in the wake of the film were anything but that of what one might expect from a nonfiction, educational life story of an individual.

Measom and Weinstein, along with editor Greg O’Toole have not only presented the narrative of this most fascinating man’s life, they’ve done it in a way that draws the viewer into Randi’s world. They’ve taken a genre of film-making and without flash and special visual effects snared the mind and the emotions of the viewer, all the while educating he or she of not only the life and times of James Randi, but also of the underbelly of society and people’s need to believe.

Mike Fortson, Direct Eyewitness To The ‘Phoenix Lights’ Craft Has Died

Mike Fortson in Memoriam

By Frank Warren
The UFO Chronicles
© 6-8-15

Mike Fortson, my dear friend, colleague, regular contributor here at TUFOC and direct eyewitness to the large v-shaped craft that flew over Arizona in ’97 (AKA The Phoenix Lights) died from cancer last Sunday, May 31st (2015).

I believe it has been over ten years since I first sought Mike out concerning he and his wife’s sighting of a huge v-shaped craft that would (erroneously) be labeled, The Phoenix Lights; in short order—we became close friends. Mike called me “his best friend that I’ve never met,” something his beloved wife Nanette reminded me of when I spoke with her on the phone today—the feeling was certainly mutual.

In a multi-part e-mail interview I conducted with Mike that began back in 06, I asked him to share some background with our readers, he replied as follows:

I was born February 24, 1953, in Hertfordshire, UK. My parents are both Americans from Indiana. My father was a staff sergeant in the USAF stationed in London. I spent the first 18 months of my life in England, then Georgia for 5 years or so. Then in 1959 we moved to Kokomo, Indiana where I spent the next 16 years.

I graduated high school in 1971 and unfortunately my lottery number for the draft (Viet Nam) was under 60 and I was headed into the military. Lucky for me my test scores were high enough that the US Navy took me with a 4 year enlistment. During boot camp I was asked if I would be interested in the USN Ceremonial Guard in Washington, D.C. I said, “yes”. I spent my entire Navy career (4 years) in DC doing military funerals in Arlington National, state dinners at the White House, participated in full honor arrivals for foreign heads of state. Highlights included; Nixon’s inauguration, funerals for Presidents Johnson and Truman. I participated in over 1500 military funerals in Arlington National. I had a White House security clearance.

In June of 1972, I married my high school sweetheart [Nanette]. We have now been married for over 34 years. We have 3 sons, now aged 29, 30 and 32. Along with that comes the grand kids; twin girls 11, another grand daughter 8, 7, and my only grandson, 5 months.

I have been in sales since I got out of the Navy in 1975. In 1979 the auto recession pushed us out of Indiana and we were part of the rush to Texas. I worked in the oilfields until 1986. When oil dropped to $6 a barrel and we loaded up again and moved to Arizona. I now sell real estate in Prescott Valley, Arizona.

As I explained to Nan earlier today, the reality of Mike’s passing is just setting in, and to say I was taken aback is understatement. In the days to come I will attempt share some thoughts and we will be republishing some of Mike’s work in his honor.

In the mean time we offer our most sincere condolences to his beloved wife Nan and all of the family. I loved him like a brother and will miss him dearly.

Roswell Alien Slide Promoters Issue Conflicting Statements After Photos are Identified As a Child Mummy

Roswell Alien Slide Promoters Issue Conflicting Statements After Photos are Identified As a Child Mummy

By Frank Warren
The UFO Chronicles
© 5-13-15

In the aftermath of the so-called Roswell Alien Slides being positively identified as that of a child mummy, which resided at the Montezuma Castle Museum (Camp Verde, Arizona) and with co-promoter Anthony Bragalia’s mea culpa and apology, there’s been a slow drum roll while all have been awaiting a response from the remaining key proponents, i.e., Tom Carey, Don Schmitt. That day was yesterday (5-12-15); however, staying in line with the mold cast for the Roswell Alien Slides fiasco, we have conflicting and or morphing commentaries.

Carey by way of a UFO e-mail forum, hosted by André Skondras issued a very pointed riposte (also seen here) in the face of indisputable, factual evidence. He in part wrote:

“We believe that the recently released ‘reading’ of the placard by the so-called ‘Roswell Slides Research Group’ was faked. Some of the names in this group, in itself, should give pause and raise red warning flags do damage to anyone actually searching for truth.”

Curt Collins of the Roswell Slides Research Group (RSRG) issued their rendering of the placard, (detailing the child mummy in the image) on the 8th (5-8-15); the next day (to his credit) Adam Dew released (the long awaited) hi-res scan of the placard, cropped from one of the slides. Shortly thereafter, using that image from Dew—with no question concerning provenance, I did my own processing and rendering, using SmartDeblur, which of course concurred with Collins’ (& Co) findings. (Important to note that this was done from scratch, not using any pre-designed models).

Since that time dozens (if not more) have replicated the process (thanks to Isaac Koi providing “How To” instructions for the lay person); including David Rudiak, who has been cited time and time again by the Roswell Slide promoters in support of the spectacle that took place in Mexico City.

Carey in his piece reiterated his position and cited his authorities that were mentioned in the BeWitness spectacle who argued that the mummy was an alien creature; he concluded his answer in stating:

“Jaime Maussan relied upon Tom Carey and Don Schmitt, who relied on all of the above to reach the conclusions that were reached. We have, at this point in the proceedings, have sent out additional copies of the placard image to third parties whose opinions we can trust to run the SmartDeBlur application on it and are prepared to abide by their findings, wherever the chips fall.”

Later the same day a more toned down version was presented at Kevin Randle’s blog, where he (Kevin) imparted, “Don had asked for a couple of modifications [to Carey’s original statement]. That statement was published before Don asked for the changes. This is the statement, slightly modified from the original version. Don made the changes.”

Here, the statement begins as follows:

“We believe that the recently released “reading” of the placard by the so-called “Roswell Slides Research Group” is still open to debate.”

and concludes as follows:

“So, what are we to make of all this? Jaime Maussan, Tom Carey and Don Schmitt, relied on all of the above to reach the conclusions that were reached. They were not our conclusions but those scientists we consulted. We have, at this point in the proceedings, have sent out additional copies of the placard image to third parties whose opinions we can trust to run the SmartDeBlur application on it and are prepared to abide by their findings, wherever the chips fall.”

It’s important to note that all of the slide promoters accused the Roswell Slides Research Group (RSRG) of faking their results concerning the rendering of the text on the placard as seen in the so called Roswell Alien Slides:

• Adam Dew published an article at his Slides Box Media site proclaiming that RSRG “photoshopped” the original (5-10-15). This article has since been removed (although copies have been saved).

• Anthony Bragalia penned a piece published at the UFO Conjecture(s) site entitled, “The Answer to the Roswell Slides Mystery: Mummy or Humanoid?” (5-9-15) and wrote, “. . . Evidence is now accumulating that rabid slide-skeptics may have even committed photo-fraud to discredit these slides.” It too has been removed.

• Jaime Maussan has also attempted to defend the alien hokum in statements and multiple tweets; in one instance he writes: “There are interests that said already proved to be a mummified child. That’s not true we are still preparing a respusta.”

As the hours have ticked by and the inevitable truth sets in for the Roswell Slide promoters, we see the denials begin to wane and the finger-pointing becoming rampant. Yet the damage is done. The worst example of self-inflicted exacerbation to Ufology generally speaking, and to Roswell research specifically, has come to pass.

Roswell Slide Promoters (Ironically) Suggest Fraud

On May 8th (2015) Curt Collins (www.blueblurrylines.com) broke the story concerning the deciphering of the placard seen in the infamous so-called Roswell Alien Slides. To no one’s surprise it described a child mummy with the top line entitled:

MUMMIFIED BODY OF TWO YEAR OLD BOY

He and his group employed off the shelf deblurring software to render the text legible. Within 24-48 hours two of the Roswell Alien Slide promoters, Anthony Bragalia and Adam Dew penned articles suggesting possible fraud or malicious intent. Bragalia in part wrote:

“. . . evidence is now accumulating that rabid slide-skeptics may have even committed photo-fraud to discredit these slides. They have voiced concerns that the being depicted is a child mummy in a museum and are apparently willing to do anything to make their point.”

To his credit, Adam Dew finally released (May 9th) a hi-res scan of the placard (cropped from the full image) depicted in one of the slides thus eliminating any questionable provenance pertaining to analysis done on the slide and in this instance the rendering of the text—proving that the alleged alien body is in fact a child mummy. It was that image that I used to do my own processing and rendering, or more specifically the text in said image which of course concurred with Collins’ findings.

Dew unfortunately didn’t leave it there, as in short order, he, like Bragalia posted similar sentiments, which included before and after shots of Collins’ depiction of the placard, along with a caption that read (over the “before” image):

“The ‘Roswell Slides Research Group’ fake placard.”

He further wrote:

“We suspect that they created their own modified version. Anyone looking carefully can see by comparing. The actual version has not yet been actually deblurred but we can see that all the text is hand written in a cursive script.”

For those of you have been following this farce for the last two years, I’m sure you see the humor and great irony in the criticism.

Sorry Mummy, I Was Wrong But . . .

In any event, before end of business on the 9th (5-9-2015) researcher Isaac Koi put together How To Instructions, entitled, “Roswell Slides – Solve the mystery at home in 1.5 Minutes.” Here he gave step-by-step instructions in how to use the deblur software on Adam Dew’s released placard image, thus removing any confusion and or doubts as what the text really says and finally, showing that the process is easily reproducible.

As of today, in the face of indisputable evidence Anthony Bragalia has reversed course offering up a Mea Culpa along with an apology. Oddly the apology wasn’t directed to colleagues in Ufology and or UFO enthusiasts who have been the recipients of his proclamations of proof of alien beings ala Roswell by way of these slides (for almost two years). Nor was the apology directed to the public who might have been taken in by this codswallop or at the folks who spent money on the promise of seeing real life pictures of an alien during the shindig in Mexico City. It was instead to the mummy itself (yes, really).

Along with the public penance, came a defense for himself, Tom Carey and Don Schmitt; Adam Dew on the other hand was seemingly thrown under the bus.

Bragalia in part wrote:

“The word ‘hoax’ has been used to describe the ‘Roswell Slides’ saga. It was not. At least, the principal investigators, Tom Carey, Don Schmitt, and I did not knowingly fake or obfuscate anything. No matter, it is a serious case of mistaken identity, the consequences of which I fully accept.

I was told that the best-available, highest resolution images of the placard were provided by the co-owner of the slides, Mr. Adam Dew, and given to world-class photo experts including Ray Downing of Studio Macbeth in NY (who conducted analysis on the Shroud of Turin) and Colonel Jeffrey Thau (who sent them to the Pentagon’s Photo Interpretation Department.) Despite the application of the best de-blurring software in the world, they were unable to read the words on the placard with any definitiveness.

I can only surmise that Mr. Adam Dew did not provide to these experts the highest-resolution images of the slides. Why he did not, I cannot be certain. But Adam Dew has to this very day not yet publicly provided the crystal-clear slide images that I know exist.”

As of today there has been no word from Dew, Maussan, Schmitt or Carey.

Regarding the mummy: it was part of the S. L. Palmer collection, originally excavated by him in 1896 at Camp Verde / Montzuma Castle. Palmer’s son in the late ‘30’s loaned the child mummy and other artifacts to the Montezuma Castle Museum and this is where the infamous photographs/slides were taken although it is not known by whom.

The Roswell Slides: Analysis of The Placard Image Released By Adam Dew

Attempts at Due Diligence

On February 18th, (2015) in an e-mail dialogue with Adam Dew (Slide Box Media and stated manager/controller of the Roswell Slides), I asked him if I could get hi-res copies of the infamous Roswell Slides for analysis with emphasis on the placard. I explained:

“I’m relatively certain I can put this thing to sleep, assuming I had high res scans of the slides, or at the very least a portion of them [the placard].

I further wrote:

“The slides and or portions thereof (the placard), would go no further then me; however, if permission is granted to do my own analysis, then I would request that any high res scans sent my way, be done–without any strings attached. I would want to publish my results immediately, and put it out for peer review.”

Assuming that he wouldn’t release them before the pay-to-see show in Mexico City, on the 5th (2015), my query was specific to anytime after the show (although I did make it clear I would certainly like them sooner if he was willing).

He replied that, “I don’t think you’ll get to see high-res scans of the full image before May 5, I do think we’ll release them soon after . . .. Whatever is ripped from the live stream will likely be fairly high-quality I’m guessing.”

While I was attempting to get assurances from Dew to receive hi-res scans from him—after the 5th (2015) or sooner, my colleague, David Rudiak queried Roswell Slide promoter, Tom Carey and in part wrote (in an e-mail):

“I was hoping I could share the hi-res placard scans you sent me with Frank Warren to see what he can pull out of it. If we could read the placard, or at least parts of it, that could go a long way to answering many questions. . . Frank . . . has been investigating UFOs for 40 years. This includes being very skilled in image processing . . . and has skill sets and investigative skills I don’t have. I fully trust Frank to be an honest reporter of his findings. Our primary goal should be the truth of what is depicted in the slides. If the placard can be read in part or in full, I think that will go a long way to finding the truth, whatever it is.”

According to David, Carey’s initial reply was cordial and he (Tom) conveyed that he would “present the request to the team.” The next day (March 17th 2015), the answer came sans the cordial demeanor and Carey made it clear in no uncertain terms that David was NOT to share the images with me in any form or fashion, nor to anyone else for that matter. Both David and I were dumbfounded by the tone in Tom’s response. Further attempts were made with Dew, all to no avail.

At this point, all I could do was wait for the gig in Mexico and work with one of the hi-res stills from the live stream as was being promoted (and noted by Adam Dew). Unfortunately, and with some surprise this was not to be. That is the big reveal of the pristine images never came to fruition. Instead, patrons were presented with edited images, shown in a blue cast and curiously—the placard in front of the alleged alien was bleached out.

The Placard is Deciphered and No One is Surprised

This brings us too yesterday (May 8th): as most of our regular readers know, Curt Collins broke the news concerning the deciphering of the placard (as seen in one of the slides). As evidenced in his article, showing the rendition—the top line clearly reads:

MUMMIFIED BODY OF TWO YEAR BOY

He further writes that the additional 3 lines render as follows:

At the time of burial the body was clothed in a xxx-xxx cotton
shirt. Burial wrappings consisted of these small cotton blankets.
Xxxxxed by the X.I. Xxxxxx, San Francisco, California.

As to the source, or provenance of the placard image Collins wrote, [that his group] “used a newly acquired source image of the placard seen in front of the body.”

Although I don’t discount the veracity of the work done, opinions matter not—as obviously without established provenance the evidence is dead on its face. Accordingly, the slide promoters apparently have seized this opportunity and with irony are suggesting that there might be malicious intent involved.

While these revelations (both publication and accusations) were gaining traction and as one might expect, creating quite a stir, something very unexpected happened . . . Adam Dew released the hi-res scans we’ve all been clamoring for at his Slide Box Media site! To his credit, he did write to me privately and stated that the slides would probably be released shortly after the event in Mexico City. Although given the reversal regarding the unfettered presentation of the slides as promised and what some have argued the obscure viewing, to be polite—Dew’s expeditious release was unforeseen. Kudos to him nevertheless!

With Dew’s release, we can now remove any questionable provenance; using his image I performed a hasty rendering of the placard employing de-blurring software, i.e., ®SmartDeblur 2.3 and Corel PaintShop Pro X7 to be exact.

The image was reduced in size, both in dimension and DPI before processing and to provide two examples. Although further work will continue as time permits, the goal here was to at the very least render the top line legible posthaste, in order to quash any notion of malfeasance, given Adam Dew is the source of the medium. The top line clearly reads: MUMMIFIED BODY OF TWO YEAR OLD BOY (See above top and below).

Second, larger rendering of the placard seen in the so-called Roswell Slides
This is the second larger image, cropped from one of the so-called Roswell Slides, highlighting the placard, detailing the mummy exhibit associated with it, as provided by Adam Dew; the rendering was performed by Frank Warren using de-blurring and image editing software. Illustrations of the text were added for clarity.

Eyewitness To The Battle of Los Angeles’ Huge UFO | VIDEO – 73nd Anniversary of The Battle of Los Angeles – 1942

Scotty Littleton

Remembering C. Scott Littleton Ph.D. – Eyewitness To The Battle of Los Angeles

By Frank Warren
The UFO Chronicles
© 2-24-15

On this day we pay tribute to my good friend, colleague, research partner and eyewitness to one of the most significant UFO events in history.

Here is an excerpt of an article by a former student of Scotty’s, Caitlin Hammer. The UFO Chronicles published her piece back in 2006:

“Scotty Littleton awoke to his parents’ whispers in the hall. He peeked out and saw his father’s pale face. As an air raid warden for his beachfront neighborhood, Scotty’s dad had to leave his family and enforce the blackout outside. The shells weren’t exploding over the ocean this time, so it couldn’t be a drill.

And then it was out of range . . ..”

C. Scott Littleton Bio

Professor C. Scott Littleton was born in Los Angeles, CA, in 1933 and grew up in Hermosa Beach, CA. He attended Redondo Union High School, Redondo Beach, CA (1946-50), served in the U.S. Army in Japan and Korea (1950-52), and attended El Camino College in Torrance, CA (1952-54), before enrolling at UCLA in 1955, where he received his B.A. (1957), M.A. (1962), and Ph.D. (1965). He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at UCLA in 1957.

An internationally recognized expert in comparative Indo-European mythology and folklore, as well as Japanese religion, Professor Littleton has published extensively on Japanese myth and religion, the origin and distribution of the Arthurian and Holy Grail legends, and the theories of the late French mythologist Georges Dumézil. He is the author of The New Comparative Mythology (3rd Edition, University of California Press, 1982) and, with Linda A. Malcor, co-author of From Scythia to Camelot: A Radical Reassessment of the Legends of King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table, and the Holy Grail (Garland, 1994; a revised, paperback edition appeared in 2000). He is the editor of Eastern Wisdom (Henry Holt, 1996), a book surveying the major Asian religions, as well as the author of the chapter on Shinto, the indigenous religion of Japan, and has contributed chapters on Japanese mythology and religion to several other anthologies, including Roy Willis, ed., World Mythology: The Illustrated Guide (Simon & Schuster, 1993), Michael Coogan, ed., World Religion: The Illustrated Guide (Oxford University Press, 1998), and Raymond Scupin, ed., Religion and Culture: An Anthropological Focus (Prentice Hall, 2000). A semi-popular book, Shinto: Origins, Rituals, Festivals, Spirits, Sacred Places, was recently published by Oxford University Press (2002). He is the general editor of Mythology: The Illustrated Anthology of World Myth & Storytelling by (Duncan Baird Publishers, 2002), as well as of Gods, Goddesses, and Mythology (Marshall-Cavendish, 2004).

Littleton has done extensive field work in a Tokyo neighborhood, focusing on its annual matsuri, or Shinto shrine festival, an account of which appeared in an article entitled “The Organization and Management of a Tokyo Shinto Shrine Festival” (Ethnology 25:195﷓202, 1986). He has also studied contemporary Japanese popular culture, focusing on the teenage dancers and rock bands that perform on Sunday afternoons in Tokyo’s Yoyogi Park (e.g., “Rituals of Rebellion among Contemporary Japanese Youth: The Outdoor Disco at Tokyo’s Yoyogi Park,” Religion 17:119﷓131, 1987), and is currently researching the possibility that elements of the Arthurian tradition diffused to China and Japan as well as to Europe from its point of origin in the Trans-Caucasian steppes (e.g., “Yamato-takeru: An ‘Arthurian’ Hero in Japanese Tradition,” Asian Folklore Studies 54:259-274, 1995). He has also researched the extent to which the hallucinogen cannabis sativa played a role at the Oracles of Delphi and Dodona (e.g., “The Pneuma Enthusiastikon: On the Possibility of Hallucinogenic ‘Vapors’ at Delphi and Dodona.” Ethos 14:76-91, 1986).

Littleton’s other research interests include nineteenth-century travel accounts—with Horace L. Hotchkiss, he is co-editor of The Diaries of Blakely Wilson: An American Traveler in Europe, Egypt, and the Holy Land, 1874-1876 (Mellen Press, 1998)—and occult and paranormal phenomena, with emphasis upon the UFO phenomenon and alien abductions. The latter interest is reflected in his science fiction novel, Phase Two (Red Pill Press, 2009), which concerns alien abductions, and an article entitled, “Divine Rebels, Alien Dissidents: Does the Mythology Surrounding Lucifer, Prometheus, and the Ancient Mesoamerican Deity Quétzalcoatl Reflect a Pro-Human Faction in the ‘Alien Raj?'” (UFO Magazine 17, No. 2:48-51 & 80, 2002), as well as his participation in the annual Aztec UFO Symposium, Aztec, NM (2006), where he discussed the mysterious object that flew over Southern California in the early morning hours of February 25, 1942, and precipitated the so-called “Battle of Los Angeles,” to which Littleton was an eye-witness. He is also the author of a memoir, 2500 Strand: Growing up in Hermosa Beach, California, During World War II (Red Pill Press, 2008), which includes a chapter devoted to the “Battle of Los Angeles.”

Littleton’s articles and reviews have appeared in American Anthropologist, Ethnology, Ethos, Journal of American Folklore, Journal of Asian Studies, Monumenta Nipponica, Journal of Folklore Research, Western Folklore, Asian Folklore Studies, Religion, History of Religions, Natural History, Journal of the Classical Tradition, Cosmos, and The Journal of Indo-European Studies, where he also serves as mythology co-editor. In addition to major essays on Indo-European mythology and the theories of the late Georges Dumézil in Mircea Eliade, et al. eds., The Encyclopedia of Religion (Macmillan, 1987, 2004) and Simon Glendinning, ed., The Edinburgh Encyclopedia of Continental Philosophy (Edinburgh University Press, 1999) he has contributed articles on a variety of subjects to The Encyclopedia of Religion and War (Routledge, 2004), The New Dictionary of the History of Ideas (Charles Scribner’s Sons, 2004), and several other scholarly encyclopedias and compendia. He is also the author of the basic article on “Mythology” in The World Book Encyclopedia (Scott Fetzer, 1991), as well as over fifty short articles on various mythological subjects in both The World Book Encyclopedia and the Academic American Encyclopedia.

He has received grants and fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies (twice), the American Philosophical Society, and the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research, and has served as a Visiting Fulbright Lecturer at The University of Tokyo and Waseda University (1980-81), Tokyo, Japan, and as a Senior Fulbright Researcher at Waseda University (1994). In 1991 he received The Graham L. Sterling Memorial Award, given annually to a distinguished member of the Occidental College faculty.

Littleton retired from full-time teaching at Occidental, after forty years, in May of 2002, and lived with his wife, Mary Ann, in Pasadena, CA. He passed away November 25, 2010 at the age of 77.
