Peering into a Black Hole – New Event Horizon Telescope

Ever since first mentioned by Jon Michell in a letter to the Royal Society in 1783, black holes have captured the imagination of scientists, writers, filmmakers and other artists. Perhaps part of the allure is that these enigmatic objects have never actually been

“seen”. But this could now be about to change as an international team of astronomers is connecting a number of telescopes on Earth in the hope of making the first ever image of a black hole.

On April 5-14 2017, the team behind the Event Horizon Telescope hopes to test the fundamental theories of black-hole physics by attempting to take the first ever image of a black hole’s event horizon (the point at which theory predicts nothing can escape). By connecting a global array of radio telescopes together to form the equivalent of a giant Earth-sized telescope – using a technique known as Very Long Baseline Interferometry and Earth-aperture synthesis – scientists will peer into the heart of our Milky Way galaxy where a black hole that is 4m times more massive than our sun – Sagittarius A* – lurks.

Oregon witness says UFO emitted a black hole sort of energy

An Oregon witness camping in a remote area near Bonanza reported an odd encounter with a square or rectangular-shaped UFO that seemed to emit a “black-like negative energy” on March 27, 2015, according to testimony in Case 64286 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness said the incident occurred on land that is extremely remote with no electricity or water beginning about 2:10 a.m. when he was inside a tent and heard the sound of what he first thought was a bear eating a bag of chips.

“I grabbed my pistol and exited my tent and realized I had a dead flashlight,” the witness stated. “Then something caught my attention. As I was turning to look, I felt static electricity so bad my skin started to itch like crazy and I felt naked like my clothing was light as air or completely being repelled by static.”

Outside the tent, the witness saw a craft he described as looking like black, negative energy – a black hole kind of dark. It was moving in from a curved path from the northeast. Pictured: Bonanza, OR. (Credit: Google)

The witness felt as though he had been drugged because “nothing was making any damn sense.”

“I even considered I had got bitten by a spider, scorpion and was hallucinating.”

But then the witness realized something was in the sky that he could not identify.

“I started calming down and realized that there is something big in the sky coming in my direction. I became terrified as I realized it’s dead quiet and has this static sound, but not just static. It sounded like serious high voltage static.”

The witness described the object.

“The ‘craft’ was black-like negative energy – a black hole kind of dark. It came at my direction in a curved path from the northeast mostly from the north and then slowed down with a faint glow. It looked dark purple and I could see a greenish blue area from time to time.”

The witness was very confused.

“I had to remember to breathe and shake my head because I was in total confusion of what I was seeing. It came within a mile or so and stopped above the tree line. It seemed to hover and circle around an area for about five minutes or more.”

The object then began to drop objects.

“It glowed a little bright and then it launched, dropped things into the woods. They completely reminded me of the time I held burning plastic and the melting drops that were on fire as they fell. My mouth dropped as the fuzzy glowing orbs starting falling from the main ship. No idea what they were, but I got scared as never before.”

The witness felt he was in danger.

“I thought – what if it launched ground troops and they are heading my way? Sudden terror hit me. I was wondering how fast I could get my van and me out of there. And more dropping balls fell this time. I could see perfectly and they were slightly different sizes. I had this thought that just maybe it’s going to crash and having serious troubles.”

The object seemed to hover and circle around the area for about five minutes or more while it dropped what appeared to be burning plastic. Pictured: Bonanza, OR. (Credit: Google)

But then the object appeared to move away.

“At mid thought it went completely black and started to crackle with static and then took off with a deep rumble vibration that seemed to encapsulate everything into a dreamy surreal feeling. It was gone and I couldn’t comprehend what happened. I still can’t believe it. The next day I was tempted to see where it hovered, but no thanks.”

The witness is hoping others have had the same experience.

“Has anyone else seen this kind of craft? It was flat near as I could see. It was rectangular, but with a curved nose.”

Bonanza s a city in Klamath County, Oregon, population 415.

Oregon is currently a UFO Alert Level 5 – with 0.77 sightings per million population based on MUFON February 2015 statistics. Oregon received a total of three UFO reports in February.

The UFO Alert Rating System is based on five levels – 1 through 5 – where states with 4.01 or higher reports per million residents are rated an Alert 1; 3.01 – 4.0 reports are an Alert 2; 2.51 – 3.0 are an Alert 3; 2.01 – 2.5 are an Alert 4; and those states with 2.0 or lower are rated an Alert 5.

Please remember that most UFO sighting can be explained as something natural or man-made. The above quotes were edited for clarity. Please report UFO activity to MUFON.com.

Monster Black Hole Could Transform Entire Galaxy

Monster Black Hole Could Transform Entire Galaxy

A ravenous, giant black hole has belched up a bubble of cosmic wind so powerful that it could change the fate of an entire galaxy, according to new observations.

Researchers using two X-ray telescopes have identified a cosmic wind blowing outward from the supermassive black hole at the center of galaxy PDS 456. Astronomers have seen these winds before, but the authors of the new research say this is the first observation of a wind moving away from the center in every direction, creating a spherical shape.

The wind could have big implications for the future of the galaxy: It will cut down on the black hole’s food supply, and slow star formation in the rest of the galaxy, the researchers said. And it’s possible that strong cosmic winds are a common part of galaxy evolution — they could be responsible for turning galaxies from bright, active youngsters to quiet middle-agers. . . .

Mystery Object Near Milky Way’s Monster Black Hole

Mystery Object Near Milky Way's Monster Black Hole
A computer simulation shows the G2 gas cloud’s encounter with the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* at the center of the Milky Way, as well as the paths of the many other objects that orbit the black hole.

A mystery object at the center of the galaxy has astronomers scratching their heads, and a new piece of information won’t be solving the case before the New Year.

In yet another twist to a saga of astronomical proportions, astronomers have identified what they say is a gas cloud that made a tight orbit around the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy 13 years ago. The object could be one in a series of gas clouds, the second of which may soon become a snack for the black hole.

The newly discovered object has been dubbed G1. An object known as G2 has been in the news for more than a year, ever since astronomers at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Germany hypothesized that it was a gas cloud. If that is true, it should lose some of its material to the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way (known as Sagittarius A* or Sgr A*). This giant black hole — its name is pronounced Sagittarius A(star) — doesn’t dine on material often, so the event would be a rare chance for astronomers to watch a black hole eat. . . .

Mystery Object in Space, a Rogue Black Hole?

An object previously thought to be a supernova may actually be a black hole ejected from its home galaxy.

Further observation should provide a definitive answer, but whatever the outcome, the object is unique: If it is a supernova, it’s a new breed that radiates for decades, while most supernovas burn out in less than a year. If it’s a black hole, it appears to be the product of two black holes that collided, and were simultaneously ejected from their merging parent galaxies.

“This could be a new type of supernova that we’ve just never seen before. But it would have to be one of the most extreme cases ever observed,” said astronomer Michael Koss, who is leading the research. On the other hand, Koss said it could provide all new information about traveling black holes. “Whatever we find, it’s exciting.” . . .

Supermassive Black Hole Discovered Inside Tiny Dwarf Galaxy

Talk about big things coming in little packages! Astronomers using data from the Hubble Space Telescope say they’ve discovered a ginormous black hole within one of the tiniest galaxies known to exist.

The supermassive black hole is about five times more massive than the one at the center of the Milky Way, but the dwarf galaxy in which it was found–known to astronomers as M60-UCD1–is about 500 times smaller than our own galaxy, according to NASA.

“It is the smallest and lightest object that we know of that has a supermassive black hole,” Dr. Anil C. Seth, a University of Utah astronomer and the lead author of a new paper about the discovery, said in a written statement. “It’s also one of the most black hole-dominated galaxies known.”

The discovery suggests that supermassive black holes may be twice as numerous in the nearby universe as previously thought, Nature reported.

Adding to the wonder is the fact that the dwarf galaxy is absolutely chockablock with stars. Someone living on a planet within M60-UCD1 would look up to a sky containing at least 1 million stars. The night sky here on Earth shows about 4,000 stars.

The discovery suggests that there are many other small galaxies containing supermassive black holes. What’s more, it suggests that dwarf galaxies like M60-UCD1 may actually be the remnants of larger galaxies that were ripped apart by collisions with other galaxies. . . .
