More than half a century later and a select group of witnesses will share their story at Victorian UFO Action’s event Westall — The Witnesses Speak.

Sue Savage, who now lives in Springvale North, was 13 at the time of the encounter; she was in science class at Westall High School when a fellow student ran into the class room shouting “there is a flying saucer outside”.

UFOs over Wanaque in ’66

UFOs over Wanaque in ’66

By www.courierpostonline.com

     […]

It all started in the early evening of that Tuesday night. It was about 6:30 p.m., and the winter sun was already long gone over the western horizon, past the great Wanaque Reservoir, and behind the darkened Ramapo mountain range.

Wanaque Patrolman Joseph Cisco was in his cruiser when a call from the Pompton Lakes dispatcher came over his police radio. It was a report of a “glowing light, possibly a fire.” Then as if right out of a sci-fi movie Cisco heard the words: “People in Oakland, Ringwood, Paterson, Totowa, and Butler claim there’s a flying saucer over the Wanaque.”

“I pulled into the sandpit, an open area to get my bearings,” Cisco recalls. “There was a light that looked bigger than any of the stars, about the size of a softball or volleyball. It was a pulsating, white, stationary light changing to red. It stayed in the air; there was no noise. I was trying to figure out what it was.”

Wanaque Mayor Harry T. Wolfe, Councilmen Warren Hagstrom and Arthur Barton, and the mayor’s 14-year-old son Billy were on their way to oversee the burning of the borough’s Christmas trees, when they heard the reports that something “very white, very bright, and much bigger than a star” was hovering over the Wanaque Reservoir. The Westall ‘UFO’ Incident Still Remains a Mystery

The Westall ‘UFO’ Incident Still Remains a Mystery

By Matthew Dunn

Children as young as seven were confronted by men in sharp black suits and warned against talking, as emergency services and military swarmed the area.

It’s the mystery that has left an Australian suburb divided with witnesses wanting answers.

This year will mark the 50th anniversary of the Westall Incident and those involved are no closer to finding out what occurred on that fateful autumn morning.

It was 11.00am on April 6, 1966, when Australia’s largest mass UFO sighting took place.

Students and teachers from Westall High School and Westall State School, and members of the public claim to have watched as three metallic objects with no obvious markings manoeuvred silently through the sky.

The objects landed in a paddock adjacent to the schools before quickly flying away, leaving large circles of flattened grass with well-defined, discoloured edges behind.

In the hours following the incident, emergency services, the military and the media were in attendance trying to make sense of the baffling encounter.

Several witnesses claim sharply-dressed men in dark suits warned them from speaking about the incident.

The warnings failed to have an effect with a number of witnesses sharing their accounts.

1966 Cape Cod UFO Encounter

A Massachusetts witness at Dennis, Cape Cod, recalls an incident from 1966 after his family visited one of his father’s Army buddies on the July 3 or 4, according to testimony in Case 68411 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database. . . .

. . . “It was hovering above the treetops on the other side of the small lake, as if it was watching the fireworks. It was large and metallic and was your classic Ed Wood 1950s disc of two pie pans put together. On the bottom pan there were six large windows. Three were clear, followed by three that were red. There were several red blinking lights around the middle of the disc.”

The witness said part of the object appeared to be spinning.

“It also appeared that only the bottom of the disc was spinning around, but this could be because there were windows that we could see spinning, so I can’t really say the top was not spinning, but it appeared to me that it wasn’t. When the clear windows spun around, you could see inside, but I didn’t see any figures or shapes of things, only shadows.”

After a few minutes of hovering, the object moved away. . . .

Huge Green Orb UFO Hovering Above the Bridge

By Cheryl Costa

Roger and his family lived in New York City, in the Bronx specifically. It was late June 1966, Roger, his wife, daughter 12 and two sons, ages eight and six, decided to get up before sun rise and hit the open road for a day trip to Pennsylvania. The family of six were traveling south on the Throgs Neck suspension bridge just prior to sunrise.

“We were probably about 2/3 of the way across the bridge, when the entire family witnessed a huge green orb UFO hovering above the bridge. My wife and the two boys were excited, yelling to me to look. I remember that it was so close to the bridge that my daughter began screaming because she thought this orb was going to hit the bridge and knock it down.”

Roger tells us that the entire sighting lasted probably no longer than 30 seconds and no one in the car remembers observing this green orb flying away. He says that it just seemed to disappear. What has bothered Roger all these years is that some of the family members clearly remember the event and other have clearly forgotten it. “I think that it is very odd that something that amazing could be so easily forgotten.“ . . .
